Lewis flax

Standing 1 to 2 feet tall, Lewis Flax (Linum lewisii) boasts slender green stems adorned with bright blue flowers, which makes them pop in both the Boise foothill grasses and in springtime gardens.


Native to western North America, this perennial can be found in various regions, including Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and parts of Canada. Within Idaho, this resilient plant thrives in a range of habitats, from dry sagebrush steppe and grasslands to open woodlands and mountain meadows. Its adaptability to different soil types and growing conditions contribute to its ability to persist in diverse ecosystems.
